The Opportunity

The EU Directive 2001/115/EC, published 20/12/2001, comes into effect on 1st January 2004. Its main provisions will be:

  • to enable self-billing and outsourcing of invoicing
  • for the convergence of Invoice data requirements for VAT purposes between EU states
  • for the acceptance of e-Invoicing by all Member States and for the electronic storage of invoices

This provides the opportunity for businesses to streamline their invoicing processes, both through the automation and integration to back end systems and also because they will no longer required to keep paper copies of their invoices.

The convergence is a more gradual process, with countries such as the UK and Finland taking a very liberal and pragmatic view of levels of security and formalization, whilst other EU countries will insist on highly stringent processes.

The JCommerce Solution

Aditel have, with their JCommerce eInvoicing Server, developed a solution that will meet the most stringent EU requirements, without compromising efficiency. The JCommerce solution will allow you to exchange invoices electronically with your existing UK partners and to expand the service to link with your European partners as required.

As with all of the JCommerce based solutions, the service is available hosted or as an on-site solution. The hosted solution provides a natural solution for businesses with low transaction volumes. For larger businesses the hosted option provides a natural mechanism for "testing the water", before committing to an onsite solution. There are also enhanced hosting options that are available for high transaction volume businesses that prefer to opt for the hosted solution.
